Mistakes Hurt, When you DIY in Construction

This project required extreme caution, as expected while re-siding the 2nd floor of this house, along with some metal-wrapping. This house had high peaks, and steep roofs, but it also had a couple difficult areas that even with 40ft rental ladders we had issues accessing.

After removing some siding, we discovered that some of the walls had been dealt a great deal of water damage, hence the rotted out wood. There was absolutely no way we would be just siding over it.

All the rotted wood got removed and we re-framed the wall, covering it in plywood and tyvek. Finally we were back on track but being up and down ladders with all of these materials really delayed us quite a bit, but covering up or hiding damage is unacceptable at DLR Construction.

Just like many other jobs, mother nature doesn’t hold back. We found a couple bats behind the siding and a couple wasp nests. You may never know the full cost of a job until you’ve actually started the demo, but that’s all part of the risk/reward ratio that comes with being a contractor!

There’s always lessons to be learned in life, especially when you’re constantly working inside peoples homes. A key take-away that we express to home-owners, is that these situations can be extremely stressful and dangerous.

Part of the reason most people choose to work with contractors is because we have experience in dealing with these situations and how to properly move forward. For Instance, if you understand how to do some siding work, you wouldn’t know that the entire wall was rotted out until you demo the old siding.

Also take note that it required extensive carpentry skills in order to finish this job, even though we were only hired to do siding. Luckily this homeowner went with DLR who has the experience to handle this diligently.

Part of the reason people love working with DLR Construction is because we don’t cut corners, but also we always go above & beyond! We understand and respect the importance of our craft, because at the end of the day, it’s what built DLR Constructions’ company name into what it is today!
