Hidden Dangers in Home Remodeling: Why Professional Experience Matters
This story starts off routine, but quickly took an unexpected turn—highlighting exactly why experience matters in home renovations. As with many of DLR Construction’s jobs, we were returning to a Northeast Ohio customer’s home to perform additional services after completing a previous project.
Having recently replaced all the windows in the house, our next tasks included removing and replacing the siding and soffit, addressing metal work around the fascia board, and repairing a rotted fascia board. What seemed straightforward quickly became more complex.
After removing the siding, we discovered multiple wasp nests, including a Japanese hornet nest—these were no ordinary insects. The hornets were unusually large and aggressive, making the work environment hazardous. Despite using over 10 cans of wasp repellent, the nests proved difficult to manage. Ultimately, we called in a professional bee exterminator to safely handle the situation.
No DIY project would have been safe under these conditions. The homeowner’s experience the week prior—being stung over 20 times while taking his dog outside—was a stark reminder of the risks involved. With DLR Construction, homeowners can avoid these dangerous surprises. Our experience ensures that even the most stressful and hazardous situations are handled safely and efficiently.
Through careful planning, knowledge of construction risks, and professional execution, we were able to complete the siding, soffit, and fascia work without incident. The homeowner was beyond grateful that the project was handled professionally and safely, reinforcing why hiring experienced contractors is always the best choice.
At DLR Construction, we never cut corners. Every project is approached with diligence, care, and attention to detail—because your home’s safety and your peace of mind are always our top priorities.
