Biopic;
We revisited this job on 3 separate occasions, only because the homeowner was in love with our work! After doing almost a full rehab to this 7 bedroom home, we returned to enlarge the back deck and build a bridge to the pool.
The original deck joists were in great condition and built with great craftsmanship (as expected on a $800,000 house), so to save some costs on lumber, we built off the original back decks foundation to create a two-tiered deck.
This deck required our crew to install roughly 30 8ft 4x4 posts 36 inches deep into the ground, and secure them with concrete. Every single post had to be placed perfectly in correspondence to our layout, and stay square/level in order to hold all this weight, especially a hot tub.
After getting an above ground pool this homeowner decided to work with us again, and DLR came up with the concept of a bridge from the lower-tier of the deck to the pool. A couple handrail sections were turned into swinging doors on the bridge, which were designed for safety, privacy, and for the home owners peace of mind, having kids around. These doors each had swivel wheels and a latch mechanism to keep them from swinging.
Underneath the bridge there’s also a small hidden door. This door leads to storage area for the winter time, which we back-filled with rocks and ply-wood for clean storage.
It’s not easy to invite strangers into your home and let them rip your house or yard up, but when you work with DLR, you realize some contractors work just as hard for your dreams as you do.
